EPPC Statement on FDA Abortion Pill Review

June 5, 2026

Research from the Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC) revealed that 1 in 10 women experiences a serious adverse event after using the abortion pill mifepristone—22 times the rate the FDA currently acknowledges. We further found that the rate became even higher after the Biden administration eliminated basic safety protections like the requirement to see a doctor in person. Tragically, American women have paid the price for a reckless ideology that has undermined necessary medical protections. We are pleased the FDA has taken our work seriously and decided to conduct a review of the safety of this drug. If its review is rigorous and thorough, we are confident the FDA will find results similar to our own.
