“We need models of faithful Catholics in public life, people who are not afraid to step into the breach and speak courageously…” — Foreword by Ryan T. Anderson

Dr. Aaron Kheriaty is known for standing at the intersection of medicine, ethics, and faith—with clarity, courage, and conviction. In this profoundly personal and intellectually rich interview-style biography, Kheriaty reflects on his journey from a charmed childhood in Bellingham, Washington, to becoming a national voice in bioethics, religious liberty, and the dignity of the human person.

Through candid storytelling and thought-provoking conversation, Kheriaty explores the unexpected turns of his life—from discovering the Catholic intellectual tradition at the University of Notre Dame, to medical school and hospital ethics boards, to high-profile court cases defending conscience and freedom. Readers will discover his unique insights into some of the most urgent ethical challenges of our time, including artificial intelligence (AI), in vitro fertilization (IVF), and the shifting landscape of parenting and technology. Along the way, Kheriaty brings a refreshing perspective to film, culture, suffering, and hope.

Unexpected gems in this book include movie reviews through the eyes of faith, commentary on some of the most challenging topics in medicine and technology (AI, IVF, Multiplex Parenting), insights on the life cycle of leadership and Aaron’s favorite prayer:

Doce me passionem Tuam” (Teach me your suffering)… try to redirect your focus on the crucified Christ rather than on our own troubles.” (Aaron Kheriaty)

Today, Aaron is a practicing physician, clinical ethicist, author, and father of five. He continues to serve on a variety of boards and initiatives that advance the role of faith in public life, including his work as Director of the Program in Bioethics and American Democracy at the Ethics and Public Policy Center. Through it all, he remains committed to forming both minds and consciences in service to the truth.

Aaron has known suffering, but in this book, he also shows his resiliency, humor, and the reason for his joy and hope—so necessary in the world today.

The Tepeyac Leadership Series was started to offer contemporary role models of lay Catholic leadership. This second volume features a physician and ethicist whose witness is especially timely. Aaron Kheriaty: on life, faith, and leadership is an engaging question-and-answer format between Aaron and Laurie Strom, editor for TLI Publishing. It is structured to give the reader an insight into three concrete areas; the reader may jump into the area or questions he wants to learn about first and explore the rest at his own pace. We hope you find in its pages much inspiration to nurture your own life, faith, and leadership.

Tepeyac Leadership, Inc. (TLI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to civic leadership development for lay Catholic professionals around the globe. TLI offers a catalyst development experience that equips the Catholic laity to become virtuous leaders, influence the culture and serve the common good.

Laurie Strom, editor, is a Deacon’s wife, grandmother, and a former Executive VP & COO serving the aerospace and automotive industries. Now, she is a mentor, coach, writer, and photographer—praising God and finding science and faith beautifully intertwined.
