“I had God on my side,” Donald Trump said of July 13.
It must have been so. God stretched forth his hand and the bullet speeding toward Mr. Trump’s head changed its course and merely nicked his ear. Alternatively, an alert Providence caused Mr. Trump to turn his head aside at the last instant. Either way, it was life or death—a matter of an inch or two.
In pulpits across the country, on conservative talk shows, at prayer breakfasts and kitchen tables, it was said that the Lord spared Mr. Trump’s life. Presumably he still has important work to do on earth.
