In a statement today that should put an end to Senator Kirsten Gillibrand’s grandiose delusions, Archivist of the United States Dr. Colleen Shogan and Deputy Archivist William J. Bosanko have jointly declared that the Equal Rights Amendment “cannot be certified as part of the Constitution due to established legal, judicial, and procedural decisions.”
It’s a safe bet that the White House solicited this public statement from the Archivist in order to put an end to the pressure campaign that Gillibrand has generated. As I observed in a post yesterday, Dr. Shogan has been stalwart in resisting pressure to act unlawfully. It’s a testament to her courage that she is willing to take the heat on this.
