Immigration and American Ideals

For too long, the immigration debate in our country has been stuck between two competing visions. One is naively optimistic and narrowly economic. The other is unduly suspicious and defensive. Neither comprehensively addresses the challenge of turning immigrants into citizens with the rights, responsibilities, and civic understandings that other Americans have.

EPPC’s Immigration and American Ideals program reconnects the debate on immigration to broader questions of American principles and identity. It explores how our country should integrate immigrants in a way that serves both their genuine interests and America’s.

The work of EPPC’s Immigration and American Ideals program is led by EPPC Fellow Luma Simms.
