The British Election: Lessons for America

May 11, 2010 | American Enterprise Institute

At this event, three close observers of the British and American political scene, including EPPC Senior Fellow Henry Olsen, examined the campaign techniques, discussed the results, and considered the specific lessons U.S. politicians can draw from the election. Are our politics becoming more similar, or are the two countries moving in opposite directions, with British politics becoming more presidential and American politics becoming more parliamentary? Both governments face serious economic challenges, with budget deficits running around 10 percent of gross domestic product. Will policies change as a result of the election? Will the result affect the special U.S.-UK relationship?
