Medicare Part D Drug Benefit: Five Years Later—Is It Working?

September 15, 2011 | Hudson Institute

On September 15, 2011 EPPC Fellow James C. Capretta participated in a public forum in Washington, D.C. sponsored by the Hudson Institute entitled “Medicare Part D Drug Benefit: Five Years Later—Is It Working?” Former Health and Human Services Secretary Mike Leavitt was introduced by his former deputy, Tevi Troy, and delivered the event’s keynote address. Mr. Capretta participated in a panel that followed Secretary Leavitt’s remarks. Mr. Capretta focused his comments on why the market-based design of part D has worked far better than a government-run alternative would have worked. The panel was moderated by Hanns Kuttner of Hudson, and Mr. Capretta was joined on the panel by Doug Badger, Mary Grealy, and Jack Hoadle. Full details on the event are available here, and a video of the proceeding is available here.
