Allam & Allah
A war of ideas.
By George Weigel
Posted: Tuesday, March 25, 2008
Magdi Allam has courageously defended the religious freedom of all while sharply criticizing those currents of thought in Islam which would deny the right of religious conversion to Muslims. Now he fights the war of ideas from a different foxhole, so to speak.  [Full Story]
California Court Strikes Blow Against Individual Liberty
By Colleen Carroll Campbell
Posted: Friday, March 21, 2008
California always has been known as a freedom-loving place where nonconformity reigns. So it came as something of a shock last month when a California appeals court effectively outlawed the most innovative new trend in American education: home-schooling.  [Full Story]
Eyeing Iran 5 Years into Iraq
The Gathering Storm, March 20, 2008
By Rick Santorum
Posted: Thursday, March 20, 2008
The fifth year anniversary of the Iraq invasion was yesterday, March 19. In commemoration, President Bush delivered a dogged defense of the war's merits at the Pentagon and emphasized the concrete progress the surge has achieved. Bush admitted the war has been longer, harder, and costlier than he anticipated, but success is still fundamentally worth it.  One reason the war is dragging on is that Iran has an interest in bleeding us and our Iraqi allies. Iran's relative power in the region will increase if Iraq descends again into sectarian conflict...We should take a lesson from Iran's behavior, because the Islamic regime is not changing course anytime soon.   [Full Story]
The Wright Stand
Judgment, character and Barack Obama.
By Peter Wehner
Posted: Thursday, March 20, 2008
If Obama isn't willing to voice his concerns and objections with Wright and stand up for his country as it is being slandered by his pastor, what can we expect from Obama when he is asked to stand up against some of the world's worst dictators?  [Full Story]
Divisions at St. Stanislaus Follow a Predictable Pattern
By Colleen Carroll Campbell
Posted: Monday, March 17, 2008
There was a strong helping of irony surrounding the proceedings at St. Stanislaus Kostka church last week when a group of parishioners called for the ouster of the renegade priest they had recruited just three years ago to lead their defiant flock. Given Rev. Marek Bozek's rocky history, it is not surprising that Bozek has generated controversy, even at the rebel Polish church.  [Full Story]
The Wright Questions
What did Obama hear, and when did he hear it?
By Peter Wehner
Posted: Monday, March 17, 2008
Until now Barack Obama has run a remarkable campaign and has shown himself to be a man of apparent grace and class, an apostle of hope and unity. But recent events are starting to eat away at the image of Obama. Nothing has done more damage to him, however, than the comments of his pastor Jeremiah Wright.  [Full Story]
Modernizing Middle East Economies Pose Long-Term Challenge to U.S. and Radical Islam
The Gathering Storm, March 14, 2008
By Rick Santorum
Posted: Friday, March 14, 2008
Surrounded by tension and unnoticed by many observers, the nations of the Middle East are building thier own kind of economic vitality.  What to do with the promises and potential pitfalls of this growing paradox?   [Full Story]
Obama's Constitution
The rhetoric and the reality.
By M. Edward Whelan III
Posted: Thursday, March 13, 2008
An examination of Barack Obama's record and rhetoric on judicial nominations discloses that beneath the congeniality and charisma lies a leftist partisan who will readily resort to sly deceptions to advance his agenda of liberal judicial activism. Given the likelihood of so many changes in the membership of the Supreme Court over the next eight years, it is particularly important that voters this November recognize the real Obama.   [Full Story]
The Politics of a Failed Presidency
How John McCain and the Republican party should deal with the Bush record.
By Jeffrey Bell
Posted: Thursday, March 13, 2008
If Republicans are to accomplish the unusual feat of winning a third consecutive presidential election in the context of an unpopular administration of their own party, they will have to develop a narrative that takes into account the failed presidency in their midst while at the same time making a plausible case for a new Republican presidency and continued Republican strength in Congress.  [Full Story]
The Swedish Solution
A Social Security reform made in Scandinavia?
By James C. Capretta
Posted: Thursday, March 13, 2008
Swedish social security is solvent because payouts are automatically adjusted to stay within available revenue.  If similar provisions were adopted in the U.S., it would make a damaging payroll tax increase unnecessary.  [Full Story]
