The Bitter Irony of Sex-Selective Abortion
By Colleen Carroll Campbell
Posted: Friday, May 30, 2008
Missouri state Treasurer Sarah Steelman recently earned the opprobrium of abortion-rights advocates by calling for a ban on sex-selective abortions. Critics have derided this as an attempt by the Republican gubernatorial candidate to pander to pro-lifers. But a quick glance at international statistics suggests that sex-selective abortion is no dystopian fantasy.  [Full Story]
Navy SEAL, "Martyr of Charity?"
By George Weigel
Posted: Friday, May 30, 2008
No one knows whether, in the split-second of his decision, Michael Monsoor thought himself called to the martyrdom of charity; like most Catholics, he'd probably never heard the term. But everything we know about this remarkable young SEAL suggests that his instantaneous decision to give his life for the sake of his teammates and allies was rooted in his Catholic faith and his understanding of its demands.  [Full Story]
Hamas Holding Out
The Gathering Storm, May 29, 2008
By Rick Santorum
Posted: Thursday, May 29, 2008
On a trip to Tehran, Hamas Supreme Leader Khaled Mashaal met with senior Iranian military officials and was told the Islamic Republic was developing advanced missiles that would be shared with Hamas. The Iranians also assured Hamas that it remained committed to supporting Hamas if Syria and Israel reached a peace agreement. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told Mashaal that Iran would increase its funding for the radical Islamist faction to make up for the likely scale back of Syrian support. "The Iranian nation and government will continue to support the Palestinian nation," he said.  [Full Story]
Obama’s Bad Prescription
Paving the way for a full government takeover.
By James C. Capretta
Posted: Thursday, May 29, 2008
Estimates show an Obama-like plan adding 40 million people to public insurance overnight.  Once started, the momentum toward full federal control of health care would be nearly impossible to reverse.  [Full Story]

California Puts Judicial Activism Back on the Agenda
By Colleen Carroll Campbell
Posted: Monday, May 26, 2008
Just as pundits were dismissing it as a phantom threat irrelevant to this fall's election, judicial activism came back with a bang. By a margin of one vote, four judges on California's Supreme Court managed to flout the will of 4.6 million California voters last week by manufacturing a constitutional right to gay marriage.  [Full Story]
Barack Clinton Obama
What's "change" is old again.
By Peter Wehner
Posted: Monday, May 26, 2008
Barack Obama has presented himself as a man who will bring "change" to Washington, cast aside the "old politics," and heal deep divisions. We are led to believe that he is a transcendent figure, more high-minded and unstained than, well, just about anyone in American politics. But reality is now shattering the myth.  [Full Story]
The Spiritual Fatherhood of John Paul II
Remarks from the Piekary Slaskie Pilgrimage
By George Weigel
Posted: Monday, May 26, 2008
During the many years this son of Poland walked the world's stage, he became a spiritual father to tens of millions, perhaps hundreds of millions, of people. He became a father in a world looking for fatherhood, and often failing to find it.  [Full Story]
A Theme for McCain's Pudding
Here's how to tie together the campaign's assortment of ideas: a reform agenda for the 21st century.
By Yuval Levin
Posted: Thursday, May 22, 2008
A successful McCain campaign would begin with noting what is wrong with the Democrats' main theme: change. In an election year marked by a vague but pervasive sense of anxiety among voters, there is something ironic about the Democratic mantra. Change, after all, is exactly what Americans have been experiencing over the last several decades.  [Full Story]
A Wake-Up Call on Gay Marriage After '03 Alarm Went Unheeded
By Rick Santorum
Posted: Thursday, May 22, 2008
Bigot! Hate-monger! Homophobe! Those were just a few of the terms hurled my way in 2003 when I said that the Supreme Court's Texas sodomy decision opened the door to the redefinition of marriage...Five years later, do I regret sounding the alarm about marriage? No. I'm just saddened that time has proved right those of us who worried about the future of marriage as the union of husband and wife, deeply rooted not only in our traditions, our faiths, but in the facts of human nature: as Pope Benedict said, "The cradle of life and love," connecting mothers and fathers to their children.    [Full Story]
