While domestic U.S. policy is rightly being debated, the proposed Mosque also draws attention to the enormous discrepancy between religious freedom in the United States for Muslims and others and the lack of religious freedom in the key strategic partner of Saudi Arabia. Chavez has recently threatened to cut off oil exports to the U.S. if there is a military attack stemming from increasing tensions between Venezuela and Colombia, its next-door neighbor.
