Why the Obama Health Law Is Not Entitlement Reform

On July 15, EPPC Fellow Jim Capretta presented a paper at a Capitol Hill event detailing how President Obama's health plan will make the entitlement and budget crisis worse, not better. Mr. Capretta argues that the consumer-driven reform proposal put forward by Congressman Ryan (the "Roadmap") is the way to push the health sector to deliver better care at less cost.

On November 4, 2009, EPPC Fellow James C. Capretta participated in a panel discussion at the Heritage Foundation entitled, "Preserving Freedom and Federalism: What's at Stake for Americans in the Health Care Debate."  The session focused on the important role states should play in reforming the nation's health care system.  Mr. Capretta focused his comments on the dangers of centralizing too much decision-making in Washington, D.C. and the importance of allowing diverse states to tailor health system changes to the cultural and value preferences of their constituents.

The Cleveland Chapter of the Worldwide Employee Benefits Network, a professional association of experts on job-based health insurance, invited EPPC Fellow James C. Capretta to make a presention at their April 16th meeting.  Mr. Capretta's presentation focused on the pressures which are driving legislators to consider reform measures, and the implications of the emerging plans for the future of job-based coverage.
