George Weigel Honored by Lithuanian Foreign Ministry

George Weigel receives Lithuanian Diplomacy Star

June 12, 2014

EPPC Distinguished Senior Fellow George Weigel was awarded the Lithuanian Diplomacy Star at a June 11 ceremony at the Lithuanian Embassy in Washington. Lithuanian ambassador Zygimantas Pavilionis cited Weigel’s tireless work on behalf of democracy and human rights and thanked him for his critical support of Lithuania’s struggle for independence from the Soviet Union.

In his speech at the event, “The Maidan and the West,” Mr. Weigel hailed the moral courage of Ukraine’s Maidan movement, which offers “a powerful reminder to Europe of what Europe intended to be” and which challenges the West “to recover both its faith and its nerve.” For more, click here to read the Lithuania Tribune’s coverage of the event.
